Photo of a train engine with men and boys seated on the tender and driver's seat, one man standing in front of locomotive. This is the Lion locomotive, which was built by Isaac Hinkley of Boston, completed in 1846. It is the oldest existing American-built locomotive in New England. It was used by the Palmer and Machiasport Railroad to carry lumber between Whitneyville and Machiasport until 1892.
